Canada Immigration Lawyer Evelyn Ackah Says It’s Time to Change the Bureaucratic Maze

It's Time to Change the Bureaucratic Maze | Evelyn Ackah | Immigration Lawyer

Canada immigration lawyer Evelyn Ackah told CTV News she has seen life-altering application mistakes happen time and again, and that it’s time to change the bureaucratic maze. A Newfoundland woman said an error in paperwork prevents her family from immigrating to Canada and cost her thousands of dollars. Her family initially applied to immigrate in 2009, and a misunderstanding means they must now wait until 2020 to reapply.

“It’s really tragic,” immigration lawyer Evelyn Ackah said from Calgary. “The fact that something so minor could affect her ability to be reunited with members of her family, I think it’s heart-breaking and I think it’s unjust.” Ackah continued, “They put people’s wrong name, dates of birth, on forms. It’s a human system. But yet they don’t look at the human side of it as the applicant. They’re the only ones that can make mistakes.”
