How far back do they care about?

I am interested in finding out more about how far back into your medical history the authorities will go, when deciding if an illness or condition makes you inadmissible. Say you had been diagnosed as mentally ill as a teenager but were now fine, would that be a problem?

Won't likely be a problem - they look only at your current medical condition to determine how much it will cost Canada's health care system to treat it. If it is over the current limits, then you're inadmissible. If not, then you are fine. There are always some exceptions however.

If you have no current medical conditions, you should be just fine.

Thanks for the reply Panusa. That sounds like a very fair system, and totally understandable. I am pretty sure that not all countries are so understanding when it comes to health issues. It can be incredibly frustrating to be blighted by history for the rest of your life - a situation which isn't limited just to health issues of course.
